Helping Homeless Pets Find a Lifetime of Love

Animals at Risk Care Sanctuary has established a new program, RAINBOW RESCUE, to help the countless pets who are abandoned and have no place to turn for assistance. Stressing the need for permanent placement, RAINBOW RESCUE will be operated in conjunction with the Sanctuary's Humane Education Program, which encourages responsible pet adoptions and proper lifetime care.

All pets available for adoption have been examined by veterinarians, vaccinated, neutered or spayed, and groomed, and have received basic obedience training. Rescue pets stay in loving foster homes and do not reside at the Sanctuary's pet retirement home. Individuals interested in providing permanent homes for these rescue animals are invited to call or contact us via e-mail at phyllisg@toto.csustan.edu, or via phone at (209)527-AARC.

Needed Immediately:

We are in need of people who are willing to provide foster homes for our Rainbow Rescue pets. We have puppies and dogs, and kittens and cats. We may have bunnies in the future. The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can rescue. If you are willing to provide this invaluable service, please contact us via e-mail (phyllisg@toto.csustan.edu) or phone ((209) 527-AARC).

Ariel

Ariel is a female Airedale/Standard Poodle mix. She's about 2 years old and weighs about 70 pounds. She's spayed and current on vaccinations. She has a typical Airedale personality: lovable and assertive. She loves to ride in the car. She would probably do better in a home without other dogs, though she could be trained to accept other dogs and cats.

UPDATE: Ariel has found a great new home!!

Austin
Austin is an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix. He's about 1 1/2 years old, weighs 50 pounds, and has a red and white coat. He's a definite frisbee dog: he can catch anything in mid-air. He's neutered and has had his shots. He has a great disposition. Although he could probably be taught to get along with other dogs, he needs to be socialized, and would probably be better as an only dog to start. He needs lots of exercise. He'd be great as an agility or flyball dog!

Christopher
Christopher is a Spaniel mix (maybe Springer?). He's about 10 months old and 40 pounds. He's been neutered and his shots are current. He has a great disposition, likes to do obedience work, and likes other dogs. His longer coat does require a little more grooming time.

UPDATE: Christopher has found a great new home!!

Kimmi
This girl with the big grin is Kimmi, a Boxer/Staffordshire mix. She's approximately 2 years old and 40 pounds. She's spayed and current on vaccinations. She would be better in a one-dog family without cats. She loves water, whether it comes from the hose on the lawn or her own doggie wading pool.

LK
L.K.
L.K. is about a year old. Her mother is Siamese, her father unknown. She has very pretty tuxedo markings, with stripes just barely visibible in her black fur. A former stray, she has a feisty personality and loves to play.

Lucy
Lucy is a beautiful cat. She was a stray, but is now spayed and ready for a permanent home.
UPDATE: Lucy has found a great new home!!

Nell
Nell is a German Shepherd mix, about 5 years old. She makes a good watch dog. She has a nice personality and gets along well with other dogs. She's spayed and has all her shots. She loves her doggie cookies!

Nicky
This handsome guy is Nicky, a year old German Shepherd mix. He weighs about 35 pounds right now. He has beautiful markings. He's neutered and has had his vaccinations. He has a great disposition and is good with everyone: kids, other dogs, and cats! He makes a good watch dog, though. He's very bright and extremely trainable.

Sambo
Sambo is the only Rainbow Rescue dog who was not a victim of the Flood of January 1997. He's an 8 year old chow, about 50 pounds. He's neutered and his vaccinations are up to date. His person went to a rest home and her family does not want to care for him. He is a real love, with a great personality. He loves to ride in the car and go for long walks. He loves doggie cookies! He's working on getting used to the cats in his foster home. He's crate trained, housebroken, and good with kids. He loves hugs and kisses.

Sonny
Sonny is a male Chow, about 2 years old and 40 pounds. He has a sweet disposition, and needs to be an only dog at the moment. He could probably be trained to like dogs with the right home and right person. We don't know about cats. He loves doggie cookies!

Spitz
This sweetheart is Spitz, a mix of Chow and something else (maybe Schipperke?). He's 6 years old and weighs 35 pounds. He's neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He loves to be with people and ignores other dogs. He'd make a great companion for a gardener, because he loves to keep people company as they work in the yard.
